Saturday Night Footy

There will be plenty of interest in the two games today, the Hurricanes hoping to continue their great winning streak against the Warratahs and the Blues desperately trying to build some momentum after their first win of the season last week.

First up is the high flying Hurricanes. So far they have had plenty of wind in their sails. Cam Milner-Skudder upstage Folau? He certainly has been electric this season, especially the last performance against the Stormers. The weather has not been to kind with conditions overcast in Wellington today but let’s hope a bumper crowd turns up at the Cake tin. I am picking the Canes by 12 to make it a perfect 8 from 8.

We then get about an hour break to cook some dinner and ready ourselves for the second NZ derby of the weekend. I might sneak down to the Cambridge and watch this one.

The Blues will have their work cut out to tame the Highlanders down in the zoo. From a personal point of view it is great to see the way Lima Sopoaga has been playing this year. I have seen Lima develop through 1st XV and Club rugby to the level he is playing now. He always had the natural skills but the way he is “Steering the ship” so far this season bodes well for him and the Highlanders.

Although the Blues had a win last week and will be hoping to build on that, I am picking the Highlanders to once again show the tenacity and grit required to win this battle. Highlanders by 8, with the Blues coming away empty handed.
